Email volunteer@nhfsinc.org for more information. Group Opportunities:
Create Baskets of Hope with friends – Baskets of Hope are small care packages created around a theme that families leaving the shelter can take with them into their new home.
Build a storage shed! New Hope needs a storage shed for garden tools and bicycle storage. Building materials need to be solicited, build days need to be organized and volunteers recruited. New Hope staff can provide some assistance with tools and building plans.
Playground Equipment for Children. New Hope has a fenced-in backyard and is ready to install playground equipment for New Hope residents. Volunteers are needed to solicit equipment donation and organize a work party to install the equipment.
Picnic Tables. New Hope House would like to provide eating areas outside for families. We invite groups to fundraise and then purchase and build two picnic tables.
Bike Program Leader. New Hope is located near the B-Line trail. Bicycling is a low-cost form of transportation and provides recreational and health benefits. We hope to partner with local organizations (e.g. Community Bike Project) to provide bikes for residents to use while staying at New Hope.
Help Families Move. When a family has stabilized and is ready to move, they often need help. Gather a few friends, a truck, and help a family transition to their own apartment.
Individual Opportunities:
Development Committee. New Hope depends on donations from the community for its survival. We need dedicated individuals who are able to develop a donor base, identify fundraising activities, and take steps to implement fundraising projects.
Affordable Housing Guide. Residents at New Hope struggle to identify and move into affordable housing. We have the beginning of a list of affordable apartments, but need to continue to research and update the costs of apartments, their availability, and the requirements of different properties management companies.
Donations Coordinator. New Hope receives donated household items on a regular basis. These items need to be sorted and rotated into the house and into the possession of New Hope residents. We also need to know what we have extra of and what we need to solicit from donors.
Volunteer Coordinator. New Hope is run in large part by volunteers, but recruiting and managing volunteers requires organizational and communication skills. This would be an excellent opportunity for someone who wants a career in management.
Landscape and Garden Leader. New Hope has the start of a vegetable garden and perennial garden areas. While groups can come in and do “work days,” New Hope needs someone with the skills to plan the garden area and direct efforts in productive ways. |
